Created by French composer EMERIC LEVARDON, HOLLYWOOD BURNS began in June 2016 with its first release, the "First Contact” EP. In this 6 track EP, he found his style by crafting modern darksynth music with vintage sci-fi elements, taking inspiration from the classic movies of the 50's, such as EARTH VS. THE FLYING SAUCERS, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, THIS ISLAND EARTH and many more.
Far from the usual synthwave 80's aesthetic, HOLLYWOOD BURNS resurrects the creatures which terrified audiences back in the golden era of cinema. While their
original portrayals are, by today’s standards, unimpressive and even comical, here they are given a fresh coat of paint; with the help of VIEW FROM THE COFFIN, the classic UFOs have been reimagined as devilish flying saucers coming from the darkest place of the universe. INVADERS continues to develop and refine the blend of 50's and 80's atmosphere as experienced on “First Contact”, with theremin, vintage organs, and cheap laser beams.
Levardon has dug deeper now though, with more surprises, and vast new galaxies to explore. Sweeping orchestral elements have been added to blockbuster synthwave for
the first time, to create a violent and explosive pop-opera.
Before making electronic music, EMERIC LEVARDON mostly composed orchestral scores for movies and television. For this first full length HOLLYWOOD BURNS album, he decided to mix together both of his passions to create something special where cheap horror sounds contrast with elegant classical music. Inspired by the works of BERNARD HERRMANN, DANNY ELFMAN, and JOHN WILLIAMS, the symphonic additions lead to something considerably more epic, but also add a poetic nuance to this dark tale. Composed and arranged rigorously, INVADERS starts with a symphonic march, and closes with a medley of the themes developed in the album as a brilliant overture.
Further embracing the same spirit of exploring the boundaries of not just space but music, INVADERS features more live instrumentation than the previous EP, capturing the magic of live performance as a signature element of the funk, disco, and rock classics of the 70’s and 80’s. This expansion into live instrumentation with electronic music forms the first step to the upcoming live performances planned to hit the stage in mid-2018.
