Orion Saiph is a progressive metal band formed in Cantabria in 2011, although two of the founding members, both guitar players, come from Asturias and Galicia. The name of the band was inspired by Metallica's instrumental song, which was the first cover they started working on in the rehearsal room. Saiph is the sixth brightest star in the Orion constellation, its name comes from the Arabic “saif al jabbar”, meaning "sword of the giant". Thus the full name could be translated as "The Sword of Orion", and refers to the interest of the band in exploring oriental sounds and the relative importance of terrestrial affairs from the point of view of the cosmos, as well as the role of the human being in the existence, topics that frequently appear in the lyrical theme of the band.
After several changes in the line up Orion Saiph compromises Paula González and Jose Guisande in guitars, Oskar Sánchez playing bass, Gustavo Merino as a Drummer and Cesar Conde in Vocals. Orion Saiph is now presenting live their first studio album entitled "Seven Stages of Grief", mixed and produced by Javier Prieto and mastered by Javier GF Escudero at Cubex studios.
