Drums Are For Parades formed in Ghent, Belgium in May 2007 by (left to right) Wim Reygaert (guitar/vocals), Piet Dierickx (drums/vocals) and Geert Reygaert (guitar). Usually loud, violent and aggressive, this power-trio touches on many styles, most prominently including heavy metal, hardcore punk and noise rock, spiked with a subtle sexual groove. Live appearances are supersonic exercises in conquest by volume and sheer heaviness. They’ve shared the stage with bands like Saviours, Black Cobra, The Violets, Amen Ra, Hitch, Vandal X, ... In August 2007, they recorded their first demo with Niek Meul from Das Pop, though the session ended abruptly after the police started getting calls from worried neighbours who thought their house was collapsing. The band had reached a nice 110 decibels outside the studio. Even during daytime, that’s illegal. But they didn’t leave empty-handed: “Keep”, the only song recorded during that session, found its way on the Internet and landed them their first gig: the opening of an exposition by photographers Nicolas Karakatsanis and Toon Aerts. In less than 18 minutes they, encapsuled by pee-stained matrasses, shoved their raging songs down the willing throats of their bewildered audience. The next day they got a call from producer Niek Meul who told them he wanted to record the songs he heard the night before. He wouldn’t take no for an answer, since he already booked the now defunkt Jet studios for the day after. That’s how 24 hours later “Artificial Sacrificial Darkness in The Temple of The Damned”, the band’s first 5-song EP, was born, recorded and mixed in one day. Initially, it was to be self-released as a CD-r, but they ran out of printer ink after 30 copies. Apparently those 30 copies landed on the right desks, and after receiving very nice reactions from people like Stephen De Waele (Soulwax), Chriss Goss (Masters Of Reality) and Dave Martijn (Goose), Nicolas Karakatsanis offered to release the EP on a limited 10” vynil through his label, SkeletonYouth. The band is currently playing lots of gigs to promote the E.P., in Belgium as well as abroad, and are working on a second release, to be expected by the end of 2008.
