In 2005 NIFROST was formed in Jølster in Sogn og Fjordane, an area of Norway famously known for sognametal bands such as Windir and Vreid. NIFROST has over the years found their own unique sound and identity while still having their roots in the Sogn og Fjordane metal heritage. Combining black metal-inspired riffs with Norwegian folk music, and with vocals that range from screams and deep growls, to melodic clean passages, all of which are written and performed in their mother tongue.

In 2016 Nifrost released their debut album "Motvind" via Orkja Produksjonar and in 2019, after signing with Dusktone, their sophomore full lenth "Blykrone".
