SOULPHUREUS took shape in the fall of 2011 as it rose from the ashes of the black metal band UNHOLY LAND, active and with a huge following on both the Italian and the international extreme metal panorama throughout the past decade. The band's very need is to melt the multiple sides of extreme metal together: from the ancient Scandinavian black metal roots to U.S. death metal onto old school thrash metal…and beyond, to forge compositions in its BLACKENED DEATH METAL style. That's what SOULPHUREUS calls itself. Four blackened SOULS. Four FURIOUS attitudes. Devilish SULPHUR from below. These three aspects permeate the songs: satanic lyrics and unconditioned passion for the atmosphere of horror movies build up the backspine of the SOULPHUREUS concept as it performs in a landscape made of violent colours, contrasts and images; made of uncompromising musical extremism, rendered even more credible by the insane mellow breaks. This is the true essence of SOULPHUREUS. The line up is composed by AREN (bass and vocals) and MORNAK (guitar), the survivors from UNHOLY LAND; ADES (drums) and NACHT (guitar) are also the founding members of ALEPH. Personal problems forced guitarist MORNAK to leave the band shortly after the recordings. His place has been successfully taken by BELETH (RISE OF TYRANTS, HATEQUAKE). REST IN HELL is the record that marks SOULPHUREUS' debut on the scene, recorded and mixed at ALPHAOMEGA STUDIOS by the band itself and Alex Azzali, well known extreme metal producer during summer 2011. After evaluating several deal proposals they got from different extreme metal labels Soulphureus finally made their decision and signed on June, 23 with Build2kill/Nadir Music Records, the Italian record label owned and ran by Sadist singer Trevor. The official release of "Rest In Hell" is scheduled for October, 1 2012. Waiting time's over, folks. The Black Phoenix is about to spread its deadly, obscure wings from now on. Be prepared for the reckless extreme music assault the guys are going to deliver, ten hellburnt songs including the Soulphureus' version of the all-time classic "The Exorcist" by the godfathers of Thrash/Death Metal: Possessed.
