Formed in late 2008, Solemn They Await was a one man, apocalyptic funeral doom metal band.
A few months after its creation, Rhys King felt that the addition of clean vocals would help to enhance the abysmal atmosphere within the music itself and bring another terrifying aspect to Solemn They Await. He found Tom Waterhouse to be the man most fit for the job. Tom's operatic and powerful vocal ability was exactly what Rhys was after. The contrast of powerful and epic clean vocals, with the deep, throaty calls, help to bring a dark presence to the songs.

Solemn They Await is influenced by other prominant funeral doom bands such as Tyranny, Evoken, Shape of Despair and Worship.
Solemn They Await use orchestra like synths to create an apocalyptic atmosphere, and employ deep funeral doom growls with operatic clean singing to evoke a sense of despair and hopelessness.
